Dear Partner,

“Write the vision and make it plain, that they can read it and run with it…” — Habakkuk 2:2

When I first became president of BWEA, an older gentleman approached me and said, “I loved your dad, but he sure did ask for money a lot.” It was both a kind and difficult thing to hear.

Especially over this past year, I have thought often about those words. Through podcasts, Instagram posts, letters, and personal conversations, I know the request for continued support can feel constant. But the more I reflect on that comment about my dad, the more I realize why he asked: he was always building, improving, and preparing for what was ahead for HYC.

At the end of August, we welcomed a large group to our campgrounds for an open house. The response to this past year’s renovations was overwhelmingly positive from those that attended. We could simply maintain what has been completed and call it good. But the vision for HYC is still moving forward.

There is more work to do—improvements and renovations that must be completed before spring 2027. To make that vision plain, here are the three major projects we need to address now:

  1. Athletic Field: Much of the work was completed this summer, but additional dirt, grading, and seed are needed this month to prepare the field for full use in 2027.

  2. Dining Room: We made do with limited improvements this summer, but the dining room still needs new windows, flooring, and improved lighting.

  3. Cabin Renovations: Additional sleeping accommodations are urgently needed for summer 2027. More beds will serve not only our summer campers, but also the spring and summer rental groups that need added housing.

How far we are able to run with this vision depends largely on those who read this letter. These projects are about much more than cosmetic improvements. The need for another renovated cabin is especially urgent because we simply need more space for people to stay. It is a wonderful problem to have, but it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

As rental demand grows, some future improvements can be funded through the additional income those groups provide. Other needs will continue to depend on the faithful generosity of HYC alumni, partners, and friends.

Honestly, I would not be too upset if, 35 years from now, someone says to one of my sons, “I loved your dad, but he sure did ask for money a lot.” The need may remain constant because the dream and the vision will continue.  That vision has remained constant for 60 plus years- to help young people gain an exciting relationship with Jesus.

Thank you for believing in the future of HYC and for helping us build a place where lives can be changed for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Craig
